The Detroit Lions are soaring at the exact same time the Philadelphia Eagles are falling. Injuries and poor play are plaguing the Eagles, and that could lead to the Lions continuing their win streak as the rough season moves forward.
A short week gives the Philadelphia Eagles no time to dwell on a bad loss, and little time to figure out their problems.
"It's a great turnaround," cornerback Darius Slay said. "We told ourselves, 'We're just going to start over.'"
"I don't think about it as much as you do, seriously. Why even talk about it?"
"As soon as I fall down at the two, he gives the fist bump, like, 'Yes, we got it.' It was planned to go down the entire time before I even got the ball."
The Detroit Lions finally showed what they have had all season, but haven't shown. Their defeat of the Oakland Raiders was their second win in a row, and it displayed a strong offense and a dominating defense.
"It was rough in the first eight weeks, now we're just turning the whole thing around."
Stafford ran for a go-ahead 5-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter and Detroit beat the Oakland Raiders 18-13 Sunday.
In addition to the people who still fondly remember the Heisman Trophy winner helping the Wolverines win a national championship in 1997, the Oakland Raiders safety has admirers among the Detroit Lions.
Here are some things to watch when Detroit (2-7) tries to win a second straight game against Oakland (4-5), which is trying to avoid a season-high, three-game losing streak.
The Detroit Lions are still playing for pride even though this season is about as close to being lost as it can be. Still, they are wanting to go out there and play well and with a healthy team which they have this week. A problem though, is that the Oakland Raiders are surging and looking good.
Rod Wood admits he probably "isn't qualified" to run any other NFL team in the country. But Detroit Lions president? That job, he feels good about.
"I'm his subordinate and he'll come in and set the pace obviously with the vision of Mrs. Ford; it trickles down."
