According to Sports Illustrated's Thayer Evans, Lions assistant offensive line coach Ryan Silverfield is heading to Memphis to become the school's OL coach.
The Lions are already guaranteed their third losing season in four, although they did win 11 games just one season ago.
The New Orleans Saints can excuse first-year cornerback Delvin Breaux for beaming with gratitude each time he walks into club headquarters on the day after a loss.
The Detroit Lions are looking to get off their second skid of the season, and they are heading into New Orleans to face a Saints team that is still alive for the playoffs. There aren't a lot of injuries to list for the Lions, but each name on the report is a big one.
"Sheldon was coaching the receivers, I was coaching the quarterbacks and we were both on the offensive side of the ball," Payton said.
"We're not in the business right now of trying people out to see what they can do for next year."
Saints first-year receiver Willie Snead is flattered by comparisons to Lance Moore, even if they start with both players were undrafted, started out on practice squads and aren't known for their size or their speed.
"If that time comes, whatever happens happens, but not now."
The Detroit Lions have had a very tumultuous season, but injuries have played a very big role in the problems that have come about. Now, injuries are going to open doors for a few others while one former starter has seen his time with the Lions come to an end.
Megatron's salary will inflict a $24 million cap hit on the Lions next year. Should the team cut or trade him, Johnson's dead money will still be a cap hit, but only half so, at about $12 million.
To help alleviate the tight end woes, the Lions signed Bear Pascoe, who played five years for the Giants and was with Atlanta last season.

The Detroit Lions have seen their season up and down this season, and right now, they are on the lower ends of things. Unfortunately, they are heading into a game with a New Orleans Saints' team that still has a long shot at the playoffs and needs to win.
"I get paid to pay these three games, and I'm going to go out there and try to earn every penny I get," Ebron said.
