WOW! Obtains Cable Franchise In Redford
MADISON HEIGHTS -- Wow Internet, Cable and Phone announced that it has been granted a cable television franchise by the Charter Township of Redford.
The agreement is the first step necessary to bring competition to Redford, providing residents with a choice of Internet, cable and phone providers.
In 2010, Wow expanded its service into the communities of Beverly Hills and Birmingham, and Wow started 2011 by expanding into Grosse Pointe Woods, Gibraltar and Harper Woods. Redford Township is the most recent community for Wow to expand into. Upon completion of construction, Wow will have invested more than $10 million in Redford Township.
Denver-based Wow has its Michigan headquarters in Madison Heights and has delivered cable, Internet and phone services throughout Southeast Michigan since 1996.
Wow provides digital cable TV, HDTV, DVRs and video on demand, a choice of Internet speeds from 2 to 15 megabits per second, and unlimited local and long distance calling.
Wow will install a new hybrid fiber optic network to serve Redford, while using the existing poles located in the dedicated public easements. In areas with underground utilities in the public easement, cable lines are installed to mirror the existing routes.
The network will be constructed and activated on a street-by-street basis. Construction is expected to take 10 to 12 months to complete from start to finish and the company has a comprehensive customer notification process.
