Wooley's Weekly Winners 4-20-12

By: Ryan Wooley

With another week in the books, it's time to bring you my weekly winners for week ending 4-21. Plenty of choices to pick from this week and as always, love to hear whether you agree or disagree. Feel free to message me on Twitter @WooleyMammoth85 or leave me a comment below.

NFL

For the last three weeks someone from the league or the league as a whole has found a way to creep into my weekly winners—and for good reason. This week is no different as the schedule was released on Tuesday and the Detroit Lions have found themselves in five nationally televised games with four of them in prime-time. The NFL obviously sees the same thing we all saw last season which is a competitive, fun and up and coming team that will be a force to mess with this year, and are not afraid to jump on the Lions bandwagon.

Whether you grew up watching him on American Bandstand, Pyramid or celebrated New Year's Eve with him every year, Dick Clark had some form of impact in almost everyone's life. With the passing of the "Oldest Teenager" this week I feel he no doubt deserves to be included in my weekly winners for his contribution to not only the broadcasting industry, but for being one of the first to put both blacks and whites on the same stage when segregation was still going on.

After winning their 11th World Series title last season the players were given their championship rings this week with all of them showcasing an adopted mascot on the side. On each ring is the rally squirrel that famously ran across home plate just after Roy Oswalt delivered a pitch to Skip Schumaker in Game 4, which in many Cardinal fans minds helped them force the decisive Game 5. I think it's hilarious the team would add the rodent to the ring as some would argue that it takes away from the prestige of the jewelry, but I think it immortalizes a moment that will be etched in the minds of all Cardinals fans, young and old for years to come.
