Wings Ponder Ditching Shootout, Revamping OT

Maybe the novelty has worn off. It used to be that many NHL fans didn't mind a tie after regulation play and five minutes of four-on-four overtime.
They knew a shootout would follow.
The NHL has used the shootout since the 2005-06 season. But you get the sense from fans, players and league officials that the appeal of the shootout is beginning to wear off.
"We've got a really good overtime," said general manager Ken Holland, who triggered a lot of discussion in hockey circles last week with talk of possibly revamping the overtime format. "Can we make it better?"
