What precautions should we take to limit the spread of COVID-19?
(CBS DETROIT) - As the fight against COVID-19 continues, health officials are urging people to start taking precautions.
According to the CDC, in the most recent week, COVID-19 hospital admissions climbed more than 8%, and medical experts suggest numbers will continue to increase as we head into fall.
Currently, in southeast Michigan, COVID-19 hospital admission levels are low, and Dr. Dennis Cunningham, Medical Director of Infection Prevention at Henry Ford Health System, has tips on what we can do to keep it that way.
"One of the most important precautions is if people are sick, we should stay home," Cunningham said. "Don't go to the office. Don't send your kid to school. The last thing we need is lots of viruses being spread."
According to Cunningham, because the virus mutates often, the vaccine that works today may not protect us a year from now. He says a recommendation for an annual COVID-19 vaccine could happen shortly.
"This week, the [FDA] just approved an updated version of the [vaccine]," he said. "This is the third version of COVID vaccines, and it's one that's going to give better protections for the omicron strains, so they're circulating right now, and I think that's probably one of the best prevention tools we have."
