Two Freeway Accidents Snarl Traffic In Metro Detroit

(Detroit-WWJ) A pair of freeway accidents tied up traffic for hours in metropolitan Detroit Monday night.

Michigan State Police say six members of one family were injured when the minivan they were in went out of control, was pinned against a bridge abutment and caught fire on westbound I-94 at Cadieux on Detrit's east side.

MSP says a number of Good Samaritans pulled victims from the burning vehicle.  The injured were taken to Detroit Receiving and St. John Hospital. The driver, a 39 year-old woman, was the most seriously injured. A nine year-old girl escaped unhurt. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The freeway was closed for about four hours. No other vehicles were involved.

Meanwhile, icy conditions apparently caused a multi-vehicle accident on the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway, M-39, at the entrance to M-10, the Lodge Freeway. Apparently no serious injuries.
