Truck Hauling 50 Tons Of Corn Overturns In Crash; 3 Injured
BROCKWAY TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a truck hauling about 50 tons of corn overturned during a crash in St. Clair County that injured three people and left a big mess along a roadway.
The sheriff's department says Michigan highway 19 was shut down on Wednesday for cleanup after the crash in Brockway Township, about 55 miles northeast of Detroit.
Investigators say the truck was going too fast in a curve, hit a car and ended up in a ditch.
In a Facebook post, sheriff's officials said the driver of the semi was taken to McKenzie Hospital in Sandusky, while the two people in the car were transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital, with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. No names have been released.
M-19 remained closed at Wilkes Road as of 1 p.m. and the Sheriff's Office said it would stay closed until the corn could be cleaned off the road.
