Troy Named 'Safest City' In Michigan
TROY (WWJ) - Troy has been ranked safest city in Michigan.
The ranking, from CQ Press, looks at six crime categories including murder, rape and robbery.
Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950, Police Chief Gary Mayer explains why Troy has such a low crime rate.
"The people who make up the community are in an income bracket that they're not inclined to get involved with a lot of the crimes that you may see in other communities," said Mayer. "It is a residential bedroom community."
Troy has been ranked safest Michigan city for ten of the last 14 years. Mayer says he's proud the city has been able to hold the title even though it's had to cut police employees. "You have to recall that this was for 2010, so at that time we were dropping of officers," he said.
Nationwide, CQ Press ranked Troy 19th safest.
