Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! It's the weekend again, and road work crews are expected to be out in full force across metro Detroit.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-696:

In Oakland County, eastbound I-696 will be closed from the I-96/I-275/M-5 interchange to US-24 (Telegraph Road) for extensive pavement repairs. The full closure begins at 9 p.m. on Friday and will be open by 5 a.m. Monday. The posted detour directs drivers east on M-5 to eastbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) to northbound US-24 back to eastbound I-696.

All ramps within the project limits will be closed to eastbound I-696 including eastbound I-96, northbound I-275, southbound M-5, and Orchard Lake Road. Traffic for downtown Detroit should follow southbound I-275 to eastbound I-96.

I-94:

In Detroit, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed at M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue) for ongoing bridge replacement. The full closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday and ends by 5 a.m. Monday. The posted detour uses the I-94 exit and entrance ramps at Van Dyke for each direction.

In Detroit/Wayne County, westbound I-94 from M-10 to I-96 has a single-lane closure on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. for ongoing construction. The southbound M-10 ramp to westbound I-94 is closed during the same time.

In Wayne County, the ramps from eastbound I-94 to both northbound and southbound M-39 will be closed Saturday at 4 a.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. The eastbound I-94 exit to Pelham Road is also closed during the same time.

I-75:

In Oakland County, southbound I-75 will have a moving left-lane closure M-59 on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. for maintenance work.

In Oakland County, southbound I-75 will have a single left- lane closure will at Lapeer Road on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. for maintenance work.

In Wayne County, northbound I-75 from Sibley to Eureka Roads will have a single right-lane closure on Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In Wayne County, southbound I-75 will have intermittent, multiple-lane closures from Piquette Avenue to 7 Mile Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, and again from 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Selected ramps will be closed while crews are working in the two right lanes. Detours will be posted for ramp closures.

In Wayne County, northbound I-75 will have double lane closures from I-94 to M-8 (Davison) nightly from 9 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday, and again from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday. Selected ramps will be closed while crews are working in the two right lanes. Detours will be posted for ramp closures.

In Oakland County, northbound I-75 will have double-lane closures just north of M-59 from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday for bridge inspections. The westbound M-59 ramp to northbound I-75 will be closed during the same time.

In Oakland County, the 14 Mile Road ramp to northbound I-75 will be closed on Saturday from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. for maintenance.

M-1 (Woodward Avenue):

In Detroit/Wayne County, northbound and southbound Woodward Avenue will be closed between Forest Avenue and Jefferson Street on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon for a parade and rally. Jefferson Avenue at Woodward Avenue will be closed during the same time.

M-3 (Gratiot Avenue):

In Macomb County, northbound M-3 will be closed from Church Street to Market Street from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight on Saturday for a festival in Mt. Clemens.

M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue):

In Macomb County, both directions of M-53 will be closed at 23 Mile Road on Saturday from 7 until 8 a.m. for crews to cross an overhead line.

Beginning the week of Monday, June 24:

M-39 (Southfield Road):

In Wayne County, the southbound M-39 ramps to both eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed from 5 a.m. Monday until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
