Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work
DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! After taking a break for the holiday weekend, road crews will be back at it in full force this coming weekend with several freeway shut downs on tap.
The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.
I-696:
In Macomb County, eastbound I-696 will be closed from Hoover Road to Groesbeck Highway from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. During the full closure, all traffic will be routed to the service drive. The full closure is needed for ongoing bridge work.
I-94:
In Wayne County, westbound I-94 will be closed from 8 Mile Road to Gratiot Avenue (Detroit) during the overnight hours on Friday and Saturday. The full closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and opens by 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The full closure is needed for ongoing resurfacing and bridge work.
In Wayne County, Moross Road over I-94 will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday.
In Wayne County, eastbound I-94 will have the left and center lanes closed from Cadieux to 8 Mile roads from 9 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday for ongoing resurfacing and bridge work.
In Wayne County, westbound I-94 will have the left and center lanes closed from 8 Mile to Moross roads from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing resurfacing and bridge work.
In Detroit, the right lane of westbound I-94 will be closed at M-10 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for sign foundation work. In addition, the ramp from southbound M-10 to westbound I-94 will be closed during the same time frame.
In Macomb County, eastbound I-94 will have the left lane closed at North River Road for maintenance work starting at 6 a.m. and ending by 5 p.m. on Saturday.
In Macomb County, the westbound I-94 exit and entrance ramps at 12 Mile Road will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday for freeway lighting work.
I-75:
In Oakland County, southbound I-75 will have the two right lanes closed from Square Lake to Adams roads, and the two left lanes from 14 Mile to 13 Mile roads closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday for maintenance work.
In Oakland County, the northbound and southbound I-75s ramp to westbound M-59 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday for ongoing construction. Detours will be posted.
I-96:
In Wayne County, the two right lanes of westbound I-96 will be closed from Merriman to Newburg roads from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday for pavement repair.
M-59:
In Macomb County, westbound M-59 will have two lanes closed from Hayes to Van Dyke from 9 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Tuesday for pavement repair.
In Oakland County, eastbound M-59 will have a single lane closed at Ormond Road from 9 a.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday for shoulder repair.
In Oakland County, the Squirrel Road ramp to westbound M-59 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday for construction.
In Oakland County, the westbound M-59 ramps to northbound and southbound I-75 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday for ongoing construction.
In Oakland County, westbound M-59 will be reduced to a single lane from Squirrel to Opdyke roads from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday for resurfacing.
M-53:
In Macomb County, southbound M-53 will have a rolling two lane closure from 14 Mile to 11 Mile roads from 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. Northbound M-53 will have a rolling two lane closure from 11 Mile to 12 Mile roads from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday. The lane closures are needed for maintenance work.
M-39 (Southfield Freeway):
In Detroit, northbound and southbound M-39 will be closed between Ford Road and I-96 from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing bridge work. Traffic will be detoured to Telegraph Road.
M-5:
The following ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday for resurfacing:
Westbound M-5 to westbound I-96
Westbound M-5 to southbound I-275
The following ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Sunday for resurfacing:
Southbound I-275 to eastbound M-5
Eastbound M-5 to eastbound I-696
Monday, Sept. 12:
M-59/Crooks Road interchange:
In Oakland County, starting at 5 a.m. Monday and running through the end of Sept, Crooks Road will be closed at Starr Batt Drive for intersection reconstruction. Local traffic will have access on the south half of the intersection. Through traffic will be detoured following west M-59 to Adams Road, to Hamlin Road back to Crooks. This work is part of the interchange reconstruction project on M-59 at Crooks.
