Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work
DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! It's time for the weekend, which also means it's time for some lane closures and road work.
According to WWJ's John Bailey, MDOT has taken a different approach to weekend construction. In past years, the weekends would be filled with several freeways completely shut down or reduced to one lane. This year they've been limiting those high impact activities to the overnight hours, which is the case this weekend.
The following construction activities are scheduled. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to adverse weather.
I-94:
In Macomb County, eastbound I-94 will have the right lane closed from 11 Mile to 12 Mile roads from 5 am - 4 pm Saturday. In conjunction, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to 12 Mile will be closed during the same time frame, and the ramp from 12 Mile to eastbound I-94 will be closed from 6 am to 11 am. The lane and ramp closures are needed for maintenance work.
In Harper Woods/Detroit, westbound I-94 will be closed from 8 Mile to Gratiot from 10 pm Friday until 8 am Saturday. The left lane of westbound 8 Mile will remain closed from Moross to Newport roads from 8 am to 10 pm Saturday. From 10 pm Saturday to 8 am Sunday, westbound I-94 will be closed from 8 Mile to Gratiot. A detour will be posted directing drivers to Gratiot Ave. during the full closures which are necessary for paving the center lane of the freeway.
In Detroit, eastbound I-94 will have the right lane closed at Van Dyke from 7 am - 7 pm on Saturday for sign foundation work.
I-75:
In Oakland County, northbound I-75 from Maple to Rochester roads, and southbound I-75 from Square Lake to Adams roads, will have two lanes closed from 9 pm on Friday until 9 am on Saturday for pavement repair.
In Oakland County, northbound I-75 the left lane will be closed from Clintonville to Sashabaw roads from 7 am - 7 pm on Saturday for maintenance work.
In Detroit, the ramp from northbound I-75 to northbound M-10 will be closed from 9:30 am - 2 pm on Friday for bridge inspections. A detour will be posted.
In Detroit, southbound I-75 will have the two right lanes closed over M-10 from 6 am until 10 am Saturday. From 10 am until 1 pm the left lane will be closed. The lane closures are needed for bridge inspections.
In Detroit, northbound I-75 will have the right two lanes closed over M-10 from 6 am - 10 am on Sunday. From 10 am until 1 pm, the left lane will be closed. The lane closures are needed for bridge inspections.
I-96:
In Oakland County, eastbound I-96 will have the left lane closed from Kensington to Kent Lake roads from Noon until 8 pm today for ongoing construction. Starting at Noon today, the ramp from eastbound I-96 to Kent Lake Road will be closed until the end of August.
I-696:
In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-696 will have the left lane closed between Mound and Dequindre roads from 8 pm Friday until 5 am Monday for ongoing construction.
I-275:
In Wayne County, moving two-lane closures are scheduled on northbound I-275 starting at Will Carleton Road, and on southbound I-275 starting at 8 Mile Road, from 7 am - 7 pm on Saturday and Sunday for detailed bridge inspections.
M-1 (Woodward Ave):
In Oakland County, southbound M-1 will have the three left lanes closed at 12 Mile Road from 7 pm on Friday until 5 am on Monday for intersection work.
M-10 (Lodge Freeway):
In Detroit, southbound M-10 will have the right lane closed from Spruce Road to Michigan Ave from 9:30 am - 2 pm on Monday for bridge inspections.
M-59 (Hall Road):
In Macomb County, westbound M-59 will have two lanes closed from Hayes to Van Dyke from 9 pm Saturday until 5 am Tuesday for pavement repair.
In Oakland County, westbound M-59 the left lane will be closed from Crooks to Opdyke roads 5 am Saturday until 5 pm Sunday for ongoing construction.
In Oakland County, westbound M-59 at Crooks will have intermittent 15-minute closures from 10 pm Thursday until 5 am Friday to set bridge beams at the overpass.
In Oakland County, eastbound M-59 at Crooks Road will have intermittent 15-minute closures from 10 pm on Friday until 5 am Saturday to set bridge beams at the overpass.
In Oakland County, eastbound and westbound M-59 will have single lane closures between Telegraph and Elizabeth Lake roads from 7 pm Friday until 2 pm Sunday for maintenance work.
M-97 (Groesbeck Highway):
In Macomb County, northbound Groesbeck will have the two left lanes closed from 9 Mile to Frahzo from 6 am - 4 pm Saturday for maintenance.
M-39 (Southfield Freeway):
In Wayne and Oakland Counties, M-39 will remain closed between the Lodge Freeway and I-96 until late October.
