Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work
DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! You're bound to get tied up in traffic this weekend if you don't check the traffic alerts below.
Save yourself some time and patience by planning your route ahead of time to avoid work zones.
The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.
I-94:
In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94, between 23 Mile and County Line roads, will be reduced to a single lane from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday for ongoing construction.
I-94/I-275 interchange:
In Wayne County, the ramps from northbound I-275 to westbound I-94, and from eastbound I-94 to northbound I-275, will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday for ongoing bridge work. Detours will be posted for each ramp movement utilizing Vining Road off I-94.
I-275:
In Wayne County, starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 4, the following restrictions will be in place on the I-275 bridge project:
- Close Tyler Road over I-275 for 7 weeks for extensive bridge rehab work.
- Close the eastbound US-12 ramp to northbound I-275 until November. The westbound US-12 ramp to northbound I-275 will open prior to this ramp closing.
- Close westbound US-12 ramp to southbound I-275 until November.
Detours will be posted for each of these closures.
In Wayne County, northbound and southbound I-275 will be reduced to a single lane between I-94 and Michigan Avenue from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday for ongoing bridge work.
I-696:
In Macomb County, the left lane of eastbound I-696 will be closed at Van Dyke from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday for sign truss work.
In Macomb County, the left lane of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed just west of Ryan Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Sunday for barrier wall work.
In Macomb County, the two right lanes of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed between Hoover Road and Groesbeck Highway from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for bridge painting. This work is part of the bridge repair on I-696 between Gratiot and Van Dyke that started last spring.
In Oakland County, the northbound Orchard Lake Road entrance ramp to eastbound I-696, and the right lane of eastbound I-696 at Orchard Lake Road will be closed from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday for maintenance work.
In Oakland County, the Franklin Road entrance ramp to westbound I-696, and the right lane of westbound I-696 at Franklin Road, will be closed from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday for maintenance work.
I-96:
In Oakland County, the westbound I-96 ramp to Kent Lake Road, and Kent Lake Road under I-96, will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday for bridge demolition. A detour will be posted for Kent Lake traffic to use Grand River and Milford Road during the overnight full closure.
In Oakland County, westbound I-96 will be reduced to a single lane from South Hill to Milford roads from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday for ongoing bridge work.
I-75:
In Oakland County, the left lane of northbound I-75 will be closed from Maple to Rochester roads from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday for maintenance work.
Beginning the week of Monday, May 7:
I-94:
In Macomb County, eastbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane nightly starting at 7 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday and ending Friday.
In Wayne County, eastbound I-94 will have the right lane closed from I-275 to Wayne Road from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday for overhead sign installation.
In Wayne County, beginning at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, the ramps from eastbound I-94 to southbound M-39 and from eastbound I-94 to Pelham Road will be closed until mid-June for ongoing bridge work.
In Macomb County, eastbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane nightly from 23 Mile Road to County Line Road starting at 7 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday and ending Friday.
I-94/M-39 interchange:
In Wayne County, the westbound I-94 ramp to southbound M-39, and the westbound I-94 ramp to Pelham Road, are expected to open on Tuesday, May 8. The ramp from eastbound Van Born Road to southbound M-39 will open on Friday, May 11.
I-696:
In Macomb County, the right lane of westbound I-696 near Ryan Road will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday for sign work.
M-150 (Rochester Road):
In Oakland County, beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday (5/8) and ending by 7 p.m. Wednesday (5/9), all lanes of eastbound and westbound University Drive will be closed at Rochester Road for water main installation. Traffic will follow posted detours utilizing Walnut, Fourth and Water streets.
M-1 (Woodward Avenue):
In Oakland County, a daily right lane closure from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on southbound M-1 at Oak Street in Birmingham until May 16 for permit work.
