Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) – Know before you go! Don't let construction activities spoil your weekend plans. Before heading out, check traffic conditions and plan your route to avoid backups.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-94:

In Detroit, the right lane of westbound I-94 will be closed from Vernier to Whittier from 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Friday. The left two lanes will be closed on eastbound I-94 from Conner to Vernier during the same time frame.

In Detroit, the right and center lanes of eastbound I-94 will be closed from Conner to Vernier from 9 p.m. on Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday for bridge work. Westbound I-94 will have the right lane closed at Conner during the same time frame.

In Wayne County, westbound I-94 will have the right and center lanes closed at Belleville Road from 8 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. on Friday for ongoing bridge work.

I-696:

In Macomb County, two lanes will be closed on eastbound and westbound I-696 from Van Dyke to Groesbeck from 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Friday, and again from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday.

In Macomb County, a single lane will be closed in each direction on I-696 at Groesbeck from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. today and again on Friday for ongoing bridge work.

I-96:

In Detroit, the right lane of eastbound I-96 local will be closed at Wyoming from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday for MITS work.

In Oakland County, westbound I-96 will have a single lane closed at Kent Lake Road from 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, while eastbound I-96 will have a single lane closed from Noon until 4 p.m. for ongoing bridge work.

M-39 (Southfield Freeway):

In Dearborn, the northbound M-39 ramp to westbound Michigan Ave. will be closed from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday for resurfacing.

M-59:

In Oakland County, westbound M-59 will have a two lane closure from Crooks to Opdyke from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday for pavement markings.

In Oakland County, westbound M-59 ramp to southbound I-75 is expected to reopen on Sunday evening.

Ann Arbor Road:

In Wayne County, both directions of Ann Arbor Road will have a right lane closure at Hines Drive from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday followed by a full closure until 2 p.m. During the full closure, traffic will be detoured using Plymouth and Newburgh Roads.

M-1 (Woodward):

In Oakland County, northbound M-1 (Woodward Loop) will have a right lane closure at Perry Street between 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday for utility work.

Beginning the week of Nov 14: 

I-94:

In Macomb County, the right lane of westbound I-94 near I-696 will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday for sign installation.

M-39 (Southfield Freeway):

In Oakland and Wayne counties, the left lane of northbound M-39 will be closed daily from Ford Road to 9 Mile Rd for wrap up work on the freeway lighting. The left lane will be closed from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily, starting Monday, Nov. 14 and ending Friday, Nov. 18.

M-1 (Woodward):

In Oakland County, northbound M-1 (Woodward Loop) will have a right lane closure at Perry Street between 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday for utility work.
