MDOT: Some Road Work Projects To Continue Through Winter
DETROIT (WWJ) - Although most of the road work scheduled in the metro area has wrapped up, a few projects will continue through the winter to allow for faster completion.
The Michigan Department of Transportation said utility replacement projects along I-94/I-69 in St. Clair County and along M-85 (Fort Street) in Wayne County will remain active through the winter until they are completed.
Other carry-over projects that will extend into 2012 include:
- I-94, Wayne County, replacing the bridges over I-275
- I-696, Macomb County, wrap-up work on 10 overpasses
- M-3, Macomb County, wrap-up work on bridge over Clinton River
- US-24 (Telegraph Road), Wayne County, reconstruction and widening between Vreeland and West roads
During 2011, the Metro Region (Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties) awarded $274 million in contracts to repair 105 bridges and improve 82 miles of pavement.
Several high-impact corridors received necessary upgrades, including:
- I-94, Wayne County, an $8.5 million upgrade to resurface more than 6 miles between M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) and M-102 (Eight Mile Road). Other improvements included repairs to 28 overpasses between Conner Road and Lochmoor Avenue.
- I-696/I-94, Macomb County, the completion of a two-year, $30 million project to reconstruct the I-696/I-94 interchange. Work included replacing the 11 Mile Road overpass above I-94, resurfacing I-94 between M-102 and the I-696 interchange, and upgrading freeway lighting between M-3 and M-102.
- M-39 (Southfield Freeway), Oakland and Wayne counties, an $80 million investment to rebuild more than 3 miles between the M-10 (Lodge Freeway) interchange and McNichols Road. Repairs to 24 overpasses between I-94 and M-10 were included in this project as well.
- M-59, Oakland County, a $21 million resurfacing investment between Crooks and Opdyke roads.
- M-59, Oakland County, an $8 million project to reconfigure and reconstruct the M-59/Crooks Road interchange, including the widening of Crooks Road between Star-Batt Road and Austin Drive.
- M-59, Oakland County, a $4 million resurfacing investment between Milford and Pontiac Lake roads.
- US-24, Oakland County, the completion of a $50 million reconstruction and resurfacing investment between 8 Mile and Orchard Lake roads.
