Tigers Send Rhymes To Toledo, Recall Sizemore

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers optioned the contract of Will Rhymes to Triple-A Toledo after Monday's 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees and recalled Scott Sizemore from the Mud Hens.

Rhymes is hitting just .221 as Detroit's starting second baseman, while Sizemore was leading the International League with a .408 average.

"We are not blaming all of our offensive woes on Will Rhymes - I want to make that perfectly clear," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said after Detroit's seventh straight loss. "But he's a second baseman, and the guy hitting .400 in Toledo is a second baseman, so he gets the short end of the stick."

Leyland said he expects to hit Sizemore second in the order - the same place that Rhymes had occupied.
