Three reasons there is no reasonable defense for Tigers' third baseman Brandon Inge after his misplays in the 10th inning Wednesday led to a 3-2 loss to the Rays.
1. Going to second base on the game-deciding play was his third-best option. It was a routine ground ball. He should have gone to first base with two outs. The hitter would have been out by a mile. He also had the force at third base.
2. He was put into the game for defensive purposes and bobbled a ball earlier in the inning, too.
3. Inge said there were no options on the game-deciding play other than second base. There were. Clearly better ones.
