REVIEW: The Dark Knight (Ultimately) Rises

HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) - The Dark Knight Rises! Yes, he does, but what takes him so long?

That's the question I had to ask myself while watching the third and final installment of filmmaker Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.

In The Dark Knight Rises, Batman is up against one of his fiercest enemies yet: the merciless terrorist Bane, whose evil plans for Gotham City eventually drive Bruce Wayne out of his self-imposed exile and, of course, Wayne brings Batman along for the ride.

In addition to Bane, Batman finds himself going up against Catwoman, who has an agenda of her own, and who teams up with Bane in a misguided attempt to get her hands on something she wants – and is willing to do just about anything – to get.

With the future of Gotham City at stake, Wayne is compelled back into action. But, since Batman's services haven't been needed for the past eight years, it takes some time for him to recondition himself to go up against a force as formidable as Bane. But, as comic book fans know, Batman certainly has his hands full trying to rid Gotham City of someone as evil as Bane.

So, it does take quite some time for The Dark Knight to "rise." Although when he finally does, he puts on quite a show. Just keep in mind that with a running time of 2 hours and 44 minutes, you'll have to be patient to see how it all unfolds.

The Dark Knight Rises is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language. This means you'll want to leave the little kiddies at home.
