Teen Drowns In Belleville Lake

Authorities in Van Buren Township are trying to determine what led to a teenager's drowning in Belleville Lake.

Public Safety officials say that 14-yr-old Casey Farley had been swimming with a cousin at Van Buren Park. The cousin told officers that Farley was last seen slapping at the water.

A dive team located the boy's body after an hour long search in 8 feet of water about 200 yards from shore. Police are trying to determine what led to the drowning. Investigators, though, note that there was no cordoned off area for swimmers and no lifeguard in that part of the lake, which also has currents where the Upper Huron River meets the Lower Huron.
