Talks Resume In Detroit Symphony Dispute

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and its musicians are back at the bargaining table. The musicians and management of the DSO have entered into informal discussions with the goal of bringing an end to the work stoppage that has delayed the opening of the 2010-2011  season.

Out of respect for that process the musicians have cancelled plans to picket Friday evening's performance at Orchestra Hall by Dee Dee Bridgewater.

This was announced in a join statement released Friday. Beyond that, both sides have agreed to a news blackout while discussions continue and said they would have no further comment.

Pickets by striking musicians began Oct. 4th after symphony management implemented a 33 percent base pay cut for orchestra veterans in the first year of the new contract. Musicians had offered a 22 percent reduction.

Amidst the strike, the musicians announced their own concert series. Information is available at this link.
