Shelby Township Man Drowns While Jet Skiing On West Michigan Lake
GOLDEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) - A Shelby Township man died over the weekend after investigators believe he had an asthma attack while jet skiing before drowning in a western Michigan lake.
The victim, publicly identified by authorities on Monday as 26-year-old Michael J. Shamon, was pulled from the water of Silver Lake in Golden Township shortly after 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses told Oceana County Sheriff's deputies that Shamon had been yelling for assistance from aboard his personal watercraft, in the northwest corner of the lake, before he fell off the vehicle into the water.
A nurse administered CPR at the scene, but couldn't save him.
Lieutenant Craig Mast says an investigation revealed that Shamon suffered from severe asthma and may have been having an asthma attack when the incident occurred.
Sheriff's officials say they believe this was a "medical death," although an investigation is ongoing.
