School bus collides head-on with pickup truck in Brownstown Township, police say

Police are investigating after a school bus collided head-on with a pickup truck on Monday in Brownstown Township, Michigan.

Police say the crash happened at about 3 p.m. at Huron River Drive near Stefano. No children were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Police say a black Honda pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Huron River and was preparing to turn left onto Stefano when a semi truck behind it swerved to the right and clipped the Honda truck, pushing it into oncoming traffic. The Honda crashed head-on with the school bus that was traveling westbound on Huron River. Police say power lines fell onto the bus.

Police say the first responders had to extradite the driver of the Honda truck. That driver suffered a fractured neck and back and was listed in serious but stable condition.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area following the crash. The roads have since been cleared, according to Brownstown police.

DTE says more than 700 customers were without power following the crash. The utility company expected to restore power at about 8 p.m. local time on Monday. As of 8:20 p.m., 11 customers were still without power.
