Scherzer Solid In Return To Rotation

RHP Max Scherzer turned in a solid outing Sunday after missing a start due to a balky left hamstring. Scherzer, 8-5 after Detroit's fifth straight win, struck out seven, walked one and allowed just five hits in seven innings. "I'm attacking the strike zone and not falling behind," he said. "I'm 1-2 and not 2-1." Manager Jim Leyland said, "He's aggressive in the strike zone. He's in one of those zones like he was a couple of years ago."

--1B Prince Fielder has pounded three straight home runs off left-handed pitchers, including Sunday's blast into the right-field seats, and all three have come with runners on base. Fielder hit one home run with a runner on in his first 12 homers but has had five runners on for his last three.

"I'm just trying to hit the ball hard, make it go far," said Fielder, who is taking part in the All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday and will have Sandy Guerrero throw to him. Guerrero has pitched to him every time Fielder has taken part in the contest, which he won in 2009 with Milwaukee. Fielder finished third last season.
