Scherzer Gets Back In Groove Against Angels
-RHP Max Scherzer was back in top form Thursday, pitching three-hit ball over seven innings. Scherzer had his arm slot correct and wobbled just once, walking two consecutive batters in the fifth, but the only run he gave up came in the sixth on a solo home run by LF Mike Trout. He had nine strikeouts and was effective with both his fastball and slider. It was the seventh time Scherzer has recorded at least nine strikeouts. "A lot of times when he slows it down to 93-94 he gets in trouble," C Alex Avila said. "When he gets in the 97 mph range, he just seems to get in a real nice rhythm." "The key was Scherzer," manager Jim Leyland referenced Detroit taking 3-of-4 from the Los Angeles Angels. "He shut down a real good team. When you pitch like that, you normally look like a real nice team." "For the majority of the game I was able to locate in and out," Scherzer said.
