Sara's Blog: Should Southern Mississippi Apologize For Their Apology?
Southern Mississippi's pep band did not score any class points on Thursday night when a group of students decided to chant, "Where's your green card?" to Kansas State's freshman point guard Angel Rodriguez. Fan chants and chop busting are a given at any sporting event, and during the NCAA tournament things are obviously heightened, but this chant was wrong on many levels. First, it was racist and second, Rodriguez is Puerto Rican and therefore a U.S. citizen.
The chant was loud enough to be picked up during the TV coverage of the game, and you can hear it in this clip.
