Runners Were Everywhere Against Wilk

--LHP Adam Wilk saw his fastball get hit Thursday night. And his curve. And his changeup. Wilk gave up 10 hits in four innings before being pulled after issuing his only walk of his outing, to the leadoff man in the fifth. "He did a good job," manager Jim Leyland said of the rookie's 72-pitch outing. "Some balls were hit good and they were hits, and some balls weren't hit good and they were hits, too." Wilk was charged with three runs, one unearned. One came on 1B Mike Napoli's solo home run, his fifth, leading off the second. Wilk stranded two runners in three of the four complete innings he pitched. "Of the 10 hits," Wilk said, "nine were singles. I thought I pitched pretty well with runners on base."

--LF Don Kelly may have been in the lineup Thursday night only because OF Andy Dirks is nursing a sore left hamstring, but he two hits and three RBI to Detroit's limited efforts against Texas rookie RHP Yu Darvish. Kelly singled in the second for the first of two hits the Tigers had off Darvish in his 6 1/3 innings. He hit an RBI grounder to second with runners on second and third in the fourth that cut Texas' lead to 2-1. Kelly added a two-run single in the ninth. "He needed to get a start," manager Jim Leyland said. In both of Kelly's full seasons with Detroit, he has played sparsely in the early part of the season but has worked himself into a priority reserve by the end of the year.
