Rick Snyder Becomes Michigan's 48th Governor

Rick Snyder has become Michigan's 48th governor.

During his inaugural address,  Snyder said, "I've been cautioned by many that expectations are aleady too  high.  We shouldn't walk away from high expectations...it's time to deliver on high expectations."  Snyder also said Michigan will become a globally competitive leader in innovation.

Hundreds were on hand for the ceremonies -- telling WWJ's Stephanie Davis that they were pleased by the new governor's speech.  One man said he liked the fact that Snyder talked about including "everyone" in his plans for the future.  Another woman said Snyder was hired "by the people" of the state of Michigan.

The inauguration was held on the Capitol steps in Lansing.   Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Attorney General Bill Schuette were also sworn into office. The three Republicans took their oaths of office after Snyder was sworn in.

Snyder was a relatively unknown businessman from the Ann Arbor area before winning the Republican nomination and defeating Democrat Virg Bernero.
