Reward Offered In Detroit Carjacking
DETROIT (WWJ) - Crime Stoppers and the Detroit Police Department are asking the public for help in the shooting of a 37-year-old man outside of his own home last week.
As the victim was leaving his home last week in the 19,000 block of Fielding, on Detroit's west side. Police said the man was approached by an armed man who demanded his car. A struggle ensued and the homeowner was shot.
The victim, who works for an automotive supply company, did survive.
Police believe he was targeted, in part, because of his occupation. "He drives a lot of demo vehicles, so a lot of the vehicles are flashy," said Detroit Police Sgt. Todd Eby.
"We don't think this is any type of random type of robbery, based on the fact that it happened to early in the morning. It appears that the gunman when the victim was leaving work ... we don't think that the gunman lives far from where this shooting occurred," Eby said
The attacker was described as a black male, dark complected, about 25 years old, 5'11, medium, build with short hair.
If you know anything about this crime, you are asked to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a $2,000 reward being offered. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
