Reward Offered As Brownstown Woman's Murder Goes Unsolved

BROWNSTOWN TWP. (WWJ) - A Halloween night murder remains unsolved in Brownstown Township and now, a family is turning to Crime Stoppers for help.

The organization is offering up a $2,500 for key information in the shooting death of 46-year-old Zita Kvasys, who was found in her home on Brantford Avenue, located off West Jefferson near the entrance to Lake Erie Metropark.

Police believe Kvasys was shot to death not long after coming home from work on Oct. 30. Her body wasn't found until the next day after the Kvasys' daughter, who attends Eastern Michigan University, became concerned when she couldn't get in touch with her mother.

Detective Lt. Robert Grant said Kvasys likely knew her attacker because there were no signs of forced entry. He said investigators have a person of interest in mind but they can't make an arrest.

"We, at this point, do not have enough evidence, concrete, to even present a warrant to the prosecutor's office," he said.

Kvasys' sister traveled to Michigan from Lithuania to make an appeal to the public.

"I cannot express my feelings because they are going, they are changing every minute, big sorrow and anger. And I want to ask people for help to find that person," she said. "Please help us to find that person and let Zita's soul rest in peace."

Birute Duncan, one of Kvasys' best friends, said they just want some answers.

"If anybody knows something about this terrible, terrible thing, who could do that to her, just please call," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Brownstown Township police at 734-675-1300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You can also submit a tip online at www.1800speakup.org, or text "CSM" and your tip to CRIMES (274637).
