Running back Jerome Harrison was scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday for a brain tumor that was discovered during a physical after he was traded to the Eagles on Tuesday, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The trade, which was to bring Ronnie Brown to the Lions, was voided and Detroit placed Harrison on the reserve/non-football injury list.

"He was in very good spirits," said coach Jim Schwartz, who visited Harrison in the hospital Friday morning, to the Free Press. "But after that, I don't know if I want to talk too much. It's one of those things, it's a non-football thing, and I'll just let him take it away from that spot."

The brain tumor might not have been found if not for the physical, and the Eagles' medical staff looked ordered an MRI after he told them he was experiencing headaches, according to Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.

The Lions, who will likely be without Jahvid Best (concussion) this Sunday, signed running back Eldra Buckley. Maurice Morris is expected to start against Atlanta, with Keiland Williams his backup.

According to the Free Press, several Lions players said Harrison had been experiencing headaches - to the point that he was wearing sunglasses on the field during practice before he was fitted with a visor.

"You don't really think about a brain tumor," linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba told the paper. "You think about maybe a hard hit to the head, migraine, maybe a few days to get back and clear your head up, but you see how serious it can be."
