Police Add Another Level Of Protection For Women Against Serial Rapist

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Police have added another level of protection and awareness for women traveling alone on the northeast side of Detroit.  Busses will make stops outside the police station to pick up passengers who may be waiting inside.

Detroit Police are urging women who wait at bus stops on the city's Northeast side to wait inside nearby police stations following a string of rapes.

Word of the latest rape came Friday from Detroit Police who were announcing a partnership with the Detroit Department of Transportation allowing bus drivers to drop off and pick up people seeking safe haven at Detroit Police precincts.

The announcement followed a sexual assault Friday of a woman who police say could be related to a recent string of rapes on the city Northeast side.

Police say the suspect approaches women walking alone or standing at bus stops. He forces them at gunpoint to secluded locations where they are robbed and sexually assaulted.
