FORD FIELD (CBS DETROIT) - The Detroit Lions benched veteran tight end Brandon Pettigrew for the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for violating a team rule.
Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said after the game that he decided to hold Pettigrew out, but he did not say which rule Pettigrew broke.
Pettigrew did not record a catch as Detroit rolled over Tampa Bay, 34-17, but quarterback Matthew Stafford made use of the other two tight ends, rookie Eric Ebron and second-year player Joe Fauria. Stafford found Ebron for three catches for 28 yards and connected twice with Fauria for 17 yards and a touchdown.
