Pat Caputo: Tigers Need To Win At Home ... Whenever The Rain Lets Up
The Tigers have been through a little bit of everything this season.
They've had a seven-game winning streak. They've had a seven-game losing streak.
They have had two four-game winning streaks. They have had a five-game losing streak.
Tigers have had their share of monumental disappointments. Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen and Joel Zumaya represent nearly $25 million of salary this year. They are all on the disabled list. Only Ordonez has played at all this season — and it wasn't effectively.
Third baseman Brandon Inge doesn't weigh that much. He still isn't hitting his weight, and wasn't in the lineup for the second straight day before Wednesday's game with the Tampa Bay Rays at Comerica Park was rained out. The Tigers' bullpen at times has been, frankly, brutal.
Conversely, the Tigers have had several pleasant surprises. Alex Avila has played at the level of an All Star catcher. Shortstop Jhonny Peralta has been better than solid. The starting pitching has been very good.
