And so it's the second day of July, the All-Star break is almost upon us, and the Tigers are very much in contention, just 1 1/2 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central standings.
Yet, the excitement about what figures to be a down-to-the-wire pennant race with the Twins and the Chicago White Sox is automatically quelled.
It has little to do with the Tigers' present. Actually, they have been a pretty good baseball club this season, and it has been to a degree unexpected, after they traded All-Stars Edwin Jackson and Curtis Granderson, and let Placido Polanco go as a free agent, during the offseason.
