Pat Caputo: Pistons Follow Lions' Route, Take The Best Available In Knight

The Pistons had no choice. They had to pick Brandon Knight with the eighth overall selection in the NBA Draft Thursday night.

It was the classic no-brainer.

Although it wasn't ideal based on need.

The Pistons are overly saturated at guard, and with perimeter players overall, and sorely lacking in the front court.

But they have also been missing a true point guard. Knight should fit that mold.

Knight, as a freshman, was the best player on a Kentucky squad that reached the Final Four. I'm shocked he was still available at eighth overall.

Utah needs a point guard badly since trading Deron Williams, but found Turkey's Enes Kanter — Knight's massive, almost-teammate at Kentucky — too tempting to pass up.

"We were fortunate he was available," said understated Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars.
