PAT CAPUTO: Game 1 With The Yankees A Wash For The Detroit Tigers - In More Ways Than One

Why was that game even started? How could it not be when it wasn't raining at the beginning, there was a national audience waiting and there are no guarantees about what the weather is going to be like in September in New York City or Detroit?

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is going to get ripped for this, and while I'm usually one of those leading the charge in criticism of him, I'm not sure it is merited this time.

Given that Justin Verlander and C.C. Sabathia are two of the best pitchers in baseball and were essentially burned up for two games, it was the worst possible outcome that could be anticipated for a baseball purist, though.

From the Tigers' standpoint, however, the fact Game 1 of the American League Division Series with Yankees was suspended in the middle of the second inning tied 1-1 was, pardon the pun, a wash.
