But the first 40 really haven't been a problem for the Tigers under the leadership of general manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland since 2006. It's been the last 40 when they have decidedly floundered.
There are 42 games remaining in the Tigers' season. While their chances of reaching the postseason are somewhere between thin and nil, the conclusion of this season could determine how the Tigers lineup in the future.
