Pat Caputo: Excitement Looming Around Lions Will Erupt Once Lockout Is Lifted

Another week has passed and the negotiations remain at a snail's pace in the NFL's labor dispute.

Progress? What progress?

Until there is actually a deal on the table and signed, it leaves a pit in the stomach, and us wondering not only "when" but "if" they will ever get the pertinent issues resolved.

But the odds remain strong they will. There is just too much at stake for both sides to have this drag out and lead to the type of extended work stoppage they haven't experienced in the NFL since the long-forgotten replacement player farce in 1987.

Whether it is sooner or later, that is the question.

Particularly in this town, we are sitting on pins and needles. The Lions won their last four games of the 2010 season, and there is a level of excitement about the team that hasn't been present since Barry Sanders was in the backfield. Yet, there is relatively little buzz about the Lions right now because the NFL is at a standstill.

It's hurry up and wait.
