Pat Caputo: Bruins Winning Stanley Cup Brings Thoughts Of What Could Have Been For The Red Wings
When the Red Wings were knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoffs this spring, the circumstances were oddly different.
There was disappointment, but not in the Red Wings' effort.
They were down three games to none to the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference semifinals. They rallied to force Game 7 in San Jose. In individual games, the Red Wings came back time after time. Even when they lost Game 7, it wasn't viewed as a monumental failure because the effort was gallant. Pavel Datsyuk, in particular, distinguished himself. Some hockey experts felt compelled to say he is one of the best players in the world, if not the very best. It's something we've known around these parts for quite some time.
The bigger picture hit home last week, however, as the Boston Bruins skated around the ice in Vancouver with the Stanley Cup.
