Pat Caputo: Bin Laden's Death Is A Reminder To Never Let It Happen Again
The visual will forever be etched upon my mind.
Having slept in past 8 a.m. on a day off, waking up with the television on in the bedroom, peering at it and immediately seeing an airplane collide with one of the Twin Towers in New York City. The tower then turning to dust.
Hearing the commentators discuss what just transpired.
Thinking to myself, "This couldn't be happening. I must be dreaming."
And the genuine sorrowful and sobering feeling the following weeks, months, years when I'd often just sit in a chair and stare ahead.
I must admit, at the time, I hadn't really thought much about what it meant to be an American. I was too busy writing about sports, starting a life with my wife, pursuing what most would call The American Dream.
