PAT CAPUTO: Biggest Building Block Victory Yet For Jim Schwartz And The Detroit Lions
Just when you thought the Lions were about to pick up another dreaded moral victory, they secured a real one.
And without question, Detroit's overtime victory at Tampa Bay Sunday was the most important building block to date for Lions' second-year head coach Jim Schwartz.
The Lions went on the road and knocked off a legitimate playoff contender, and they broke the 26-game road losing streak from hell in the process.
The last time the Lions won the road, the Dow was over 14,000 points, there had been no meltdown in the auto industry and Kwame Kilpatrick was still rolling as Detroit's mayor.
It wasn't only that the Lions won this game, but how. Tampa Bay had taken the lead with less than two minutes remaining — and the Lions drove to tie the game with a field goal.
