Partially Mummified Body Found In Oakland County Hoarder Home
HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - An autopsy is planned on the body of a man found dead in what's been described as a hoarder home in Oakland County.
According to Hazel Park police, a 61-year-old woman "in dire need of medical attention" was removed from the house on Milton Street in Hazel Park on Monday, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officials with Adult Protective Services were notified about the situation and police returned to the scene Friday morning — this time with hazardous materials clean-up team and a search warrant.
That's when the body, presumed to be that of a 78-year-old male resident of the home, was discovered decomposing among piles of garbage, according to police.
Authorities at the scene told WWJ Newsradio 950 that body appeared to be "partially mummified" — indicating that it was likely there for some time before it was discovered.
The man was last seen alive back in December, according to neighbors, but it's unclear when or how he died. Authorities say cause of death may be difficult to determine due to the condition of the body.
The man's name was not released as police say they're awaiting a medical examiner report and confirmation of his identity.
An investigation is ongoing.
