Parolee Captured After Leaving Work Detail
LAPEER (WWJ/AP) - Michigan State Police say a parolee who walked away from his work detail at the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer County has been captured.
Police tell WEYI-TV that 31-year-old Darrell Stallard was found around 12:25 a.m. Friday at an undisclosed location.
Authorities say Stallard, who was convicted of armed robbery, was mowing a lawn Tuesday near the correctional facility about 50 miles northwest of Detroit when he walked away. Police found his equipment abandoned and his prison clothes in a nearby ditch. Investigators had said they thought Stallard was picked up nearby and driven away.
Local schools were in "secure mode" as authorities searched, but the alert was lifted after police said Stallard likely left the area.
Stallard was under state supervision following a parole violation.
