Officials: Department Radio Used In Attack On Detroit Paramedics
DETROIT (WWJ) - A paramedic is recovering after being attacked while on the job in Detroit.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Chatsworth Street, in a northeast neighborhood along Warren Avenue and East Outer Drive.
Two paramedics were treating a patient who was having troubles breathing when the decision was made to transport the person to the hospital. Officials say someone in the family became enraged, grabbed a portable department radio and smashed the back window of the EMS rig.
One of the paramedics received injuries to the head and was taken to St. John Hospital for treatment. The worker, a five-year veteran of the department, was last reported in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation.
The attack happened less than six months after two paramedics were slashed with a box cutter on the city's west side. The suspect, 30-year-old Michael Montgomery, is facing trial for attempted murder charges.
