Police officer, suspect injured in shooting in Lincoln Park, Michigan
(CBS DETROIT) - A Lincoln Park officer and a suspect were injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
The shooting happened in the 26400 block of Outer Drive in Lincoln Park. The officer and suspect are listed in stable condition, according to Michigan State Police.
MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw says officers were conducting a narcotics investigation in the area when the suspect involved started running. Shaw says about four Lincoln Park police officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire, resulting in one officer and the suspect being hit. Shaw says some of the officers were undercover, while others were in uniform.
The officer was shot in the lower body. No details were given about the suspect's injury.
It is unknown how many shots were fired.
MSP will be handling the investigation.
"We have one of our drones up that are going to plot out the crime scene out here as well. And then a lot of it is going to be interviewing those officers that were involved and then the suspect themself," said Shaw.
Shaw says some of the police officers were wearing body cameras, which will help their investigation. They will also be investigating the suspect's and each officer's gun.
"What we'll do now is, it's actually called a round count. We'll go through all their weapons, we know how many rounds they were issued. And then what we'll do is we'll compare that with the amount of casings that we find out here. That's how we get the estimate of how many shots were fired," he said.
