OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - It's perhaps a sign of the recovering economy, Oakland Community College is training more new hires for local companies.
OCC Chancellor Tim Meyer says it's part of the Michigan New Jobs Training Act.
"We're looking at providing workforce training for four companies that have looked to establish themselves in Oakland County. Much of that decision is their opportunity for training their employees in their fields of specialty," says Meyer.
Meyer speaking live on WWJ says they expect to add more businesses to the roster, most of them related to the auto industry.
"What it does is allow us to capture Michigan income taxes of newly hired employees, and it's their income tax that goes into training those employees, it's important to note that it has to be new jobs, and that is why what we are talking about is so significant, because it is adding employment," says Meyer.
Among the companies adding new hires include Merritor, and Denso both connected to the auto industry.
