Oakland County Residents Cast Votes For 'Lesser Of Two Evils'

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - With the 2016 presidential campaign wrapping up across the nation, some in Oakland County headed to the polls after work to cast their last-minute votes.

At East Middle School in Farmington Hills, WWJ's Jon Hewett reported that turnout has been strong throughout the day — although there was pretty much no line at 7 p.m.

One man, who didn't want to give his name or say who he voted for, mimicked what many have said: He showed up to do his civic duty despite not being enamored with either the Democratic or Republican candidate.

"The lesser of two evils is not something that I like to say, but I feel like that's kind of the feeling of the people, and I just voted along that line," he said."I figured who was going to be best for our future."

At the Royal Oak Farmers Market, poll workers said turnout has been great — although there was almost no waiting there either at 7 p.m.

Talking to WWJ's Sandra McNeill in line, most voters who wanted to say who they voted for said they voted for Clinton — except for Kimberly Frederick.

"I just think he's the better of the options," she said, adding, "I don't feel comfortable voting for Hillary...just everything I've heard about her; a lot of lies."

Her biggest concern?

"Both candidates kind of suck...So it was kind of a choosing of the lesser of two evils; which kind of isn't fair," Frederick said. "But that's how it went this year."

Robert Stecker said, although he wasn't happy with either candidate, he had to make a choice.

"I told myself I didn't want to vote for, you know, certain last names a couple years ago — either Bush or Clinton," he said. "But hatred would definitely not be something, just...that I would tolerate."
