New Recalls at Ford and Chrysler

The government says Chrysler is recalling about 22,000 sport utility vehicles and trucks to fix brake tubes that could lead to the loss of brake fluid.

Chrysler says its recall affects certain 2010 Dodge Nitro, Dodge Ram, Jeep Liberty and Jeep Wranglers that could have defective brake tubes. The problem could lead to the loss of brake fluid, making it difficult to brake and posing the threat of a crash.

"What's positive here is that the issue was discovered internally through improved quality control processes, and not through internal complaints," says Chrysler spokesman Nick Kappa, who told WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert that they've recieved no reports of accidents or injuries.

Ford Motor Co., meanwhile, is recalling more than 30,000 2010 Transit Connect vans to replace pushpins holding the liners above the driver's head.

"This is a compliance related recall," says Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood. "It was a regulatory requirement. It was out of complaiance in one area that they tested."

Ford also says it has no reports of injuries.

Ford's recall is expected to begin in July. Chrysler says owners should be notified in August.
