New Entrepreneur Group Forming

A new tech entrepreneur group is forming in Detroit, called the Detroit New Technology Meetup, or D-New Tech for short. Oragnizer Thanh Tran of H&T Medical Solutions said the new group "was formed to highlight the entrepreneur spirit" in southeast Michigan.

Tran said the new group is currently sponsored by TechTown, the Collaborative Group and Judy Johncox, Wayne State University associate vice president for technology commercialization.

Tran said the D-NewTech meetup welcomes members from any school, sector, or industry function -- entrepreneurs, technologists, investors, lawyers, marketers, students, bloggers, etc. -- interested in local high-tech startups.

The group seeks to foster tech entrepreneurship by facilitating communication, providing access to resources, and creating community. Members are to meet every few weeks to participate in demonstration events, educational panel and speaker events, happy hours and more.

The group's flagship event will occur the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne State University Engineering Development Center. In these meetings, three to five companies get five minutes each to present and five minutes to answer questions.

Five presenters this month take the stage for 10 minutes each followed by open announcements and community networking.
