New Details Expected On Cause Of Warren Explosion

WARREN (WWJ) - New details are expected Thursday afternoon on what caused an explosion that destroyed a Warren business earlier this month.

Officials from the Warren Fire Department and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have tentatively set an afternoon press conference at Best Textile Services on Hoover in Warren to share their findings of a May 4th blast that destroyed an industrial laundry building.

A spokesman for the ATF told WWJ Newsradio 950 the investigation was ongoing and was expected to last through Wednesday night.

Another ATF official said at least $1 million worth of damage was done to the 5,000 square foot building.

That amount does not include several nearby homes and businesses damaged by the blast, first thought to be caused by a gas leak.

However, investigators say there were no leaks detected leading up to the gas meter at the building.

The business was closed at the time of the explosion. Two people nearby suffered minor injuries.
